All Dogs Deserve a Good Home

This fundraiser is dedicated to my friend Dee, who introduced the wonderful Doodle Sage to me and, more importantly, to an incredible family.

I received information from my friend Dee regarding a dog in need of rescue. Sage was obtained by Dee from owners who were unable to manage her care due to significant infestations of ticks and fleas, which led to severe matting and scabbing on her skin. The prior owners had shaved her for relief, but ongoing care was required. Dee provided exemplary attention to Sage until arrangements could be made for her transfer to NDLB, for which I am grateful to my foster coordinator, Kayla.

Upon receiving Sage, I noted her gentle and friendly disposition. She was taken to intake for

 evaluation and immediately began treatment for Lyme disease, since her previous owners had only tested her without providing care. Sage experienced fur growth into her ears, resulting in matting and infection. Due to discomfort, she resisted intervention initially. After placement with her foster caregiver, Sage received veterinary attention that included trimming her ear fur, cleaning the infected areas, starting medication for her ears, and extracting a problematic tooth.

During this period, I shared Sage’s photo with my neighbor, who expressed interest in adoption. We discussed the importance of Sage’s recovery prior to any transition. Following submission of the adoption application and a patient waiting period, the family met Sage and formed an immediate bond. Sage has now been adopted and is thriving in her new environment. Notably, she resides across the street, allowing regular updates on her progress and well-being.
