This year we’ll ride at the beautiful Carver Park Reserve on Saturday September 27th.
Your support of the Family to Family program for these two young women and their families is changing their lives!
Grace, (on the left) is 18 years old and in her fourth and final year of secondary school. In December, she'll take national exams to complete the O-Level of secondary school at Mama Kevina Secondary. When she passes, she will earn a Uganda Certificate of Education! Getting a UCE is a HUGE achievement, and she and her family are very excited!
Grace is very interested in mathematics and physics. She was selected as one of six students to attend a Youth Leadership Summit in Kenya. This allowed her to interact with several coaches and over 150 peers from within East Africa.
Grace's mother Gertrude is a member of the Kayoro Osukuru Multipurpose Cooperative Society, and participates in the economic development program from Give Us Wings. Their primary market of groundnuts is performing better than ever.
When Gertrude and one her grandchildren fell ill, they received treatment at St. John's Kayoro Health center as part of their enrollment in the Family to Family program.
Betty, (on the right) is now 16 years old and in her third year of secondary school. Betty likes math and sciences and received a 9/10 in the Physics and Biology tests given at the beginning of the term. Betty is also interested in writing. She was selected to participate in the Literature and English Education Initiative Annual Writers Club Workshop in Mbale, Uganda!
Betty's parents are very supportive and her mother Caroline visits her at school regularly. Caroline is a leader of the Buyemba Cooperative and was elected to represent the Coop on the Health Unit Management Committee at Give Us Wings St. John's Kayoro Health Center.
The Buyemba Coop continues to focus on producing cassava flour and making baked goods from the flour. With equipment provided by Give Us Wings, the Coop has seen a huge improvement in the quality of the flour and their customer base. Caroline says, "I've learned about identifying the needs of my customers and planning to meet their needs in the future. I keep adding new ingredients to baked products. The cooperative model has increased our income as a group and given us modern farming skills."
Caroline recently needed abdominal surgery and with Give Us Wing's support in the community health insurance offered in the Family to Family program, she was able to get the care she needed and is back on her feet.
The family currently has 3 pigs, 5 goats and 4 cows. This enables them to eat three meals a day.
At Give Us Wings, we meet people, not statistics. Together, we ARE changing the world...one family at a time. NEVER underestimate the difference YOUR contribution makes. Big or small, we do it together. Thank you for your support!
