UPDATES from UGANDA

Executive Director, Peter Carlson, made his second trip to Uganda in September to meet with our staff and see how our programs are working. It was a packed 10 days of visits and conversations as he witnessed how Give Us Wings is supporting tangible, positive change in the lives of people in eastern Uganda. You can read below many of the things he learned about our efforts in health care, education, and economic development. Whether you are a brand new donor or have supported Give Us Wings for years, your financial help is essential to the good work that is being done. HEALTH CARE

A rural health care outreach with our clinic staff

It's an exciting and busy time at St. John's Kayoro Health Center! Staff stay busy tending to patients, preparing for community outreaches, communicating follow-ups, and keeping the building and grounds in tip-top shape. No one ever wants to go to the doctor but our staff makes the clinic a pleasant place.

EDUCATION

There was no shortage of thank yous as Peter met many parents and children who are enrolled in our Family to Family program. Parents continue to be thrilled that their child is receiving an excellent education at a respected institution and students brag about their classes, their meals (!), and the various activities they have access to. Peter was able to spend an awesome morning at Maama Jr. Primary School where he help lead an art project with a few classes. Keep an eye out...some of their masterpieces may be available for purchase in the future!

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Partnering with co-ops offers an opportunity to positively impact a large number of people for a small investment.  The trainings we provide are helping co-op members increase crop yield, reduce loss, and learn to run their businesses more effectively. They are actively helping the co-ops' bottom line but only cost us a few hundred dollars. Co-op "wish lists" -- for equipment that will truly transform their enterprises -- run around $6000-7000. Even as a small nonprofit, these are things that we CAN DO to really make a difference!
