DMS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit community shop. We provide our members affordable access to tools and the space to use them. We are both an informal business incubator and a space for artists, tinkerers, builders and makers of all sorts.
While our rent is low, we are responsible for building repairs. This includes the $75,000 roof repair that is needed. Our typical annual budget is $70,000.
We do have a commitment for dollar to dollar matching funds for the roof repair. This brings our obligation to $32,500, of which we have raised about $5,000 so far.
The board will not approve any major shop improvements until the roof is repaired - freeing up budget funds to help meet our goal for the roof.
Who we are:
Duluth Makerspace is a 501c3 nonprofit providing an 11,000 sq foot community multi-discipline industrial, arts, and technology space where members get access to tools and equipment for a small monthly fee. We have acted as an incubator for small business, a workplace for artists, a creative outlet, and a location where ideas can become reality.
Some of our members have been able to find employment, start full or part time businesses, help other small local businesses with creative solutions, as well as build and improve personal “do it yourself” skills due to their learning and experience at our MakerSpace.
