Team Henrik & Rufus

Hi, I’m Henrik. I’m 10 years old, and this summer I’m doing everything I can to raise money for Safe Hands Rescue—because they’re the reason I have my dog, Rufus.

Rufus is more than a pet. He's part of our family. He makes me laugh when I’m sad and helps me feel safe when I’m scared. 

But before Rufus came to us, he needed someone to take care of him. Safe Hands did that. And now, I want to do the same for other dogs like him.

I’m donating my time and doing special projects—walking dogs, helping moms, delivering cotton candy, and making custom bracelets and 3D-printed toys—all to raise money so Safe Hands can rescue more animals who need love, care, and a second chance.

Every animal deserves what Rufus got. Every animal deserves a safe hand.

August was a stray people had tried to save for months, but he was too scared and wouldn't allow anyone to get close.  During his time as a stray, he was hit by a car and was shot through the leg. He was wasting away to almost nothing.

   

Finally, so weak and tired, he allowed someone to bring him in. She brought him to one of our partner shelters, who asked us for help.  August is the perfect example of just the kind of dog Safe Hands is here to help – he needed good nutrition and personalized care. He only weighed just over half his healthy weight. Shelters try their best, but many are not equipped to provide specialized care to save lives.

Safe Hands was able to give August the needed time to heal and recover. He was given a long course of antibiotics and fed small, frequent meals to avoid refeeding syndrome.  Thanks to animal lovers like you, our team was there with the resources August needed to recover, survive–and go on to thrive. With extra care, love, nutrition, and attention, August rallied. This sweet dog, who was destined not to make it, got a second chance because of donors like you.
