It’s been a challenging year for all of us, especially for those in recovery. One of the saving graces has been the reopening of the Uptown House to in-person meetings, but this also came with its own challenges. With the limits to meeting sizes, the slow return of those comfortable with in-person meetings, and the lack of basket passing for cash donations our 7th Tradition donations have not returned to sustainable levels. This has put us in a very fragile position financially, and the end result is we could be forced to close the house sometime in the coming year if donations don't improve significantly.
We have made it thus far only because many group members have been generous in the past year, and we were fortunate enough to have a responsible prudent reserve of savings. Yet, with the pandemic restrictions continuing, our funds dwindling, and monthly donations averaging 50% of our need to pay the basic cost of operating the Uptown House we now need to take action to secure the future of our wonderful meeting house and the AA and Al-Anon community it has created in our city.
Thus, we’re launching this campaign to ensure we have adequate funding for the next year to keep the house open, the meeting schedule active, and preserve the future of the Uptown Group at its unique and beautiful location in the historic house on Summit Ave that it is today. Our goal is to raise $15,000 which is the estimated shortfall we have for the next 6 months minus one month's expenses. We know that this is a lot, but we also know that if everyone contributes what they can, if even a small amount, we can reach this goal quickly and make sure that the Uptown Group will be there for the still suffering Alcoholic well into the future. Please give where and how you can today!
