Picasso Projects is fundraising *a shared space for community connection and creative incubation*

$2,980

raised by 33 people

$5,000 goal

Sharon Picasso is a transdisciplinary artist creating at the intersection of movement, sound and design. She is the founder and Artistic Director of Picasso Projectsa collective of inspired and seasoned movement artists whose work has been described as fresh, nuanced, and immersive.

April 2021 Picasso opened Lupa Studio, a physical space to nurture creative incubation, connection, community and softness. Lupa Studio operates on the fuel of collective care; exploring ways to be unfettered to capitalism while offering a comforting and beautiful space for artists.

*Prior years of GiveMN campaigns have allowed Picasso to offer all alignment and movement sessions on a sliding scale. This enables our vision to collectively address the needs of individuals giving access to modalities that traditionally are very costly.

*Lupa Studio also provides studio space on a sliding scale to artists centralizing time and soft space  in the creative process and a sustainable option to balance life and art making. The following artists are currently using Lupa Studio in various ways (follow their links to learn more about them):

Jess Kiel-Wornson is a Minneapolis based multimedia artist. She currently offers a Multi-Level Observational Drawing Classes at Lupa to learn direct, observational drawing skills in an intergenerational, supportive, small group.

Jess Forest (Jesse Neumann-Peterson) 2014 Sage Award Recipient for Dance performance, is a dancer, theater performer, choreographer, and visual artist residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jess uses Lupa Studio to investigate film, movement, sculpture and collaborates with a number of local artists in our community.

Picasso was invited to show her short film, ancora,  alongside other Minnesota-based dance films that connect with ideas of migration and transformation. “Migration and Transition” was presented by the McKnight Foundation and features the work of McKnight International Choreographer, Sandy Silva,  from Montreal.

ancora was originally commissioned by Skewed Visions as part of Cubicle3: Work. Now.

Sharon Picasso is a 2022 McKnight Dance Artist Fellow. She was awarded a 2019 Artist Initiative Grant from Minnesota Regional Arts Council and Picasso Projects a 2018 Minnesota Regional Arts Council Community Arts Grant. Sharon Picasso & Picasso Projects was presented by Red Eye Theater's New Works 4 Weeks Festival to produce an evening length work and work in process  from 2014 -2018. Picasso self produced another evening length work at Red Eye Theater in the Fall of 2018. We are forever grateful for the creative home Red Eye Theater has provided us.

Picasso was invited as a Resident Artist at Chulitna Lodge Artist Retreat in the wilderness around Lake Clark, Alaska. This residency, Red Eye Theater's incubation and the generosity of the local art community and beyond has allowed our work to expand.

Generosity in many forms is what keeps arts flourishing in the Twin Cities. We Thank you for your support.

Warmly,

Sharon Picasso // Picasso Projects // Lupa Studio

Picasso Project Collaborative Performers and Partners:  Brian J. Evans, Masanari Kawahara, Heidi Kalweit, Jess Forest, Erin Thompson, Jess Kiel-Wornson and Marisol Herling.
