Red Eye

A nonprofit organization

As 2021 comes to a close, Red Eye opens a new chapter as we begin hosting artists and events in our new space. Red Eye’s next long-term home is located in the Focus Arts building, on Dakota land in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis.

This fall, we’re supporting the first artistic experiments to take place in this new space, and celebrating the grittiness and magic of creative process. We’ll begin to host smaller events while the space is still relatively raw, and we will continue to make improvements through the conclusion of our capital campaign. We are on the verge of all the action, sound, text, light, movement that is yet to coalesce here!

This Give to the Max Day, we’re highlighting JOBSITE, a video series directed by Red Eye Co-Artistic Director Theo Langason that chronicles the process of Red Eye’s new theater as it is under construction. A diverse collection of artists across multiple disciplines performing in a space unfinished, JOBSITE juxtaposes artistic work with an active construction site.

We’ve just announced the participating artists for JOBSITE residencies, the first group whose process is held in the new space. And on November 18, we’ll release three brand new JOBSITE videos, featuring Moheb Soliman, Chitra Vairavan, and Skyler Nowinski. Watch our social media channels or join our email newsletter so you don’t miss out!

This year, we’re lucky to have received a collaborative matching gift, put together by several of our beloved board members plus one stellar anonymous donor. They’ve agreed to match up to $3000 of donations that Red Eye receives for Give to the Max Day. For anyone who makes a contribution the week of November 15-19, your gift will be *doubled*, i.e. it will go twice as far in supporting a hub for contemporary performance in Minneapolis! Every contribution through the GiveMN platform also makes us eligible for additional prizes in this annual giving event for Minnesota nonprofits. All of that to say: if you’re planning to support Red Eye this year, this is a particularly advantageous time to do it.

That’s also because right now, Red Eye’s capital campaign is in full swing! In fall 2021, with the most essential structures now in place, we are gathering support for the basic furnishings that will be needed as we begin hosting rehearsals, performances, and other kinds of events in the new space. This includes things like audience seating; mirrors, tables, chairs, and clothing racks for the dressing room; upgraded lighting/sound equipment; and more. This means we also have an extra special set of perks for donors: including dedicating a chair in the new space, limited edition prints, personalized curatorial packages, and special performance experiences.

This space is truly for all of us. Help us bring it to life with good energy and well-wishes so that we can dream and build this artistic home together.
