Red Eye

A nonprofit organization

Here we are. It’s that time of the year once more: Minnesota’s golden moment for supporting nonprofits and arts groups. For this year’s Give to the Max Day, your friends at Red Eye are asking you to step in a little closer…

This year, we’re asking our community to sign up for RECURRING DONATIONS to RED EYE.

We are so grateful for all the artists, audience members, collaborators, connectors, and enthusiasts who contribute to this work in a myriad of ways. As we continue to deepen our roots in Red Eye’s new space in Seward, we are likewise looking for ways to deepen and sustain how we are able to support the work of artists in our community. Something that would take that work to the next level is to cultivate a steadier flow of individual donations, something we can depend on or draw from as needed.

That’s why, as we approach the 40th anniversary of Red Eye, we are launching THE RESERVOIR.

Think of this group of monthly donors like a critical resource, a source of support that continuously replenishes itself. A recurring donation in any amount means you become part of THE RESERVOIR—because every contribution counts, and we can do more when we pool what we have together. More financial stability means we can pay artists more equitably. It means we can take more creative risks. It means that the space itself can be a resource—for artists creating new performance work, and for audiences that come to witness, be challenged, be inspired, and be connected.

Our goal is to welcome 40 new recurring donors before the end of 2023! For everyone who starts a recurring donation of $10+ to Red Eye before the end of 2023, we are going to offer a complimentary ticket to our 40th anniversary party, coming up later this year. (There will also be a fun alternative thank you gift for those who are out of town or can’t attend!) More details to be announced, but trust us, you will want to be there!

In the last year, we’ve welcomed hundreds of artists and thousands of audience members to Red Eye’s space, supporting open-ended artistic process, performance work that defies categorization, and live art experiences that invite complexity and discussion. And we’ve got big plans for the coming year!

  • Soon we will announce the next cohort of the OMNIVERS program, a flexible container that supports the process of BIPOC artists and/or collectives. Two new artists will join the current OMNIVERS artists, Ritika Ganguly and Miré Regulus.
  • In March 2024, Co-Artistic Director Valerie Oliveiro will share an evening-length dance work, VASTNESSESS.
  • We’ll host two more editions of the new series for dance works in process, Tiger Balm.
  • In May and June, we will present the annual, much-loved New Works 4 Weeks Festival of new performance works. Works-in-Progress and Isolated Acts cohorts will be announced soon.
  • We’ll throw a big party to celebrate Red Eye’s 40th anniversary! Details forthcoming!
  • And we welcome a range of other productions by artists in the community via our curated rental program.

Can you join us in supporting this work through a donation in any amount that is meaningful to you? Here’s how:

  • It’s easy to set up recurring donations through GiveMN! Just check the “monthly” option and select the giving level. Even small amounts (like the price of a coffee or a show ticket) will add up and make a big difference.
  • Of course, we also welcome one-time online contributions on GiveMN!
  • You can always mail a check to Red Eye Theater, 2213 Snelling Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55404.
