$2,500 goal

In 2017, we were a team of two 17 year olds asking for dress donations and providing free dresses to as many of our peers as possible. Since then, we’ve stayed volunteer-operated with new high school volunteers continuing to join our team and dedicate the time and energy to make sure dress donations  reach the hands of as many students as possible.

This year, 20 high school volunteers from 4 states, and 11 schools work tirelessly to provide their communities with dresses!

Between soccer practice, SAT prep, college apps, and part time jobs, our volunteers are Pass Down the Gown. They set up photo shoots, manage our social media, prep and clean each individually donated dress, and to ship out each individual dress.

This GiveMN season, we are hoping to raise $2,500 to help our volunteers be successful as they give a dress a new life: have it modeled, published on our website, and into the hands of someone new!

Support our volunteers so we can continue to support communities and the environment, and they can continue to support their schools and peers.

With $15 you can help three people rent a dress!

In gratitude,

Who we are

We are a 501(c)3 organization that provides free dresses to rent for events such as prom, weddings, and other formal events. We are a volunteer-run organization with a team of 20 high school students and 15 junior board members who are committed to making formal events affordable AND sustainable across the U.S.

What's been done so far?

We take people's old formal dresses and give them a new life. By cleaning and fixing single-use dresses, we are then able to rent them out for different events over and over again. Since our inception in 2017, we've rescued over 500 dresses from being sent to the landfill or left to collect dust and currently have over 250 dresses on our website available for rent.

What Problem do we Address?

Prom is unsustainable and expensive and our volunteers know this! The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions (published by the UNEP and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation) and events like prom promote a single-use mindset that makes prom wasteful. Additionally, the average prom experience in the US is $900-$1000 (estimated by Amarra) which is unattainable for most high school students and their families nationwide.

At Pass Down the Gown we see these as issues we can target at the same time.
