In 2020 I met zAmya Theater Project and ever since my life has been more hopeful, joyful, and meaningful. I started going to troupe meetings, and it wasn't long until they invited me to create a piece with troupe member Robert Blood. Soon after that I stepped in and supported a few seasons of Homeless Network NewZ doing video editing, Zoom admining, and project direction. As other parts of my work life picked up, I couldn't be as involved with the zAmfAm, but lucky for me, that's when they asked me to serve on the board.
What zAmya did for me -- giving me a grounded, loving, meaningful place to go when my life was feeling undone -- they do every day for people experiencing housing insecurity. Through this simple act of connection, story, and liveness, they build a community where housing justice is something everyone can access.
Eventually it was meaningful connections to people like those in zAmya that inspired me to move back home to Rhode Island. I've stayed on the board long-distance for the last 18 months, but I've come to realize that I need to give that energy to my local community and so am rolling off. Please give to zAmya for Give to the Max -- in honor of the work they have done, are doing and will do!
