We are excited to kick off our annual Read-a-Thon on February 1st in conjunction with our “I Love to Read Month” activities! This will be our only school led fundraiser for the year and the main advantages of a fundraiser like this are that the focus is on literacy and 100% of the donations benefits the students of Discovery Elementary.

In our Read-a-Thon, each student will have a reading goal of total minutes read outside of school in the month.  If the student wants to raise money they will then ask for sponsored “flat rate” pledges from family, friends, and neighbors to encourage them to reach their reading goal. By acquiring pledges/donations, the students are making a promise to do their best to reach their reading goal.  We encourage the students to collect the donation at the time of sponsorship.  The last couple of years, our school fundraising goal has been$10,000 to be used towards the purchase of additional items for student use, including additional technology, books, and other items for student use, and to offset field trip costs.

Our primary goal is to promote literacy in a fun way and for the students to be intrinsically motivated to read.
