I am so proud to have been working for AmazeWorks for over 4 years to bring belonging to life for children and adults of all identities and lived experiences! One way AmazeWorks champions equity and belonging for all is through our anti-bias Elementary Curriculum, which uses picture books to guide regular, intentional conversations about identity, difference, and bias with children.
Growing up in a small rural town, my childhood was filled with familiar faces, similar stories, and shared beliefs. Everywhere I looked, the people I interacted with, the books I read, and the stories I heard all mirrored my own identity, reinforcing my lived experience. While this provided me with a strong sense of self, it also left a void in my understanding of and respect for those who were different from me. As I journeyed into adulthood, navigating a world filled with differences became an anxiety-inducing challenge.
What I wished for during my formative years was more books like "All The Colors of the Earth”. It beautifully celebrates the rich tapestry of our differences, portraying them not as something to fear or ignore but as something to cherish and embrace.
