Join us in celebrating Sharon Sayles Belton, a trailblazer who has made an indelible mark on the world through her relentless dedication to justice, unwavering commitment to public service, and remarkable achievements in our community.
All gifts to Tubman made in Sharon's honor will support our outreach, housing, and comprehensive support for victims of human trafficking, including Safe Journeys transitional housing for youth and young adults, the NorthStar Youth Outreach Center, and the Inspiring Youth program for youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
As one of the visionary founders of Harriet Tubman Women's Shelter, Sharon envisioned a lifeline for women in desperate need of safety, hope, and healing while building the foundation for the Tubman of today. As the first African American woman to be elected as the mayor of Minneapolis, Sharon shattered barriers and paved the way for countless people to believe in the power of their dreams. Throughout her entire career, she has demonstrated the transformative power of compassion, perseverance, and community, reminding us that one individual's unwavering commitment can shape a better world for all.
Thank you for all you've done in our community, Sharon. We wish you all the best in your next chapter. Harriet Tubman's motto was "Keep going." Thank you for inspiring us to do just that!
