On the eve before I turn 40, this is my first step on a journey to become a true advocate for justice system reform. As a novice podcast listener just 6 months ago who has binge listened to #undisclosed and many more over the last 6 months, I am ready to be a voice for change. So much to be done... starting with arrests and people who are disproportionally singled out by the police, to inequalities of the bail system, to length of sentences (particularly for those who were underage at time of arrest), to holding detectives and prosecutors accountable, to reforming the appeals process. It is so easy to convict yet once convicted, there are years ahead of struggle and court room battles a wrongfully convicted defendant must go through to prove innocence. Even after "actual innocence" is proven it can take months, years... or never, for them to be released.
