Typically a Saturday, K-8th grade STEM program operating out of NdCAD (The Network for the Development of Children of African Descent). We typically work with 30 - 40 students an academic year. Due to COVID, we have had to scale back temporarily. We have been operating in the format of Engineering Pods, where we work with a small group of 10 students that are in middle and high school. Currently, our primary focus is working with students of African heritage/Black students in order to help address the STEM gap.

We are currently working on the Solar Peace Collective (SPC) aspect of our program. This focus allows our students to utilize solar energy/power to create peace in our community and world. Once project focus is working with community Elder Melvin Giles on developing his illuminating solar powered peace pole. Students are currently working on designing and constructing a 15' solar peace pole to be installed at the Western sculpture park in St. Paul. Also we are developing a personal sized solar peace pole that ultimately could be mass produced. Lastly, we are working with We Share Solar® to provide practical engineering skills to students that will be used globally for humanitarian purposes. For example, ISA students are building a Solar Suitcase that will provide a classroom/school with solar power/light/electricity in an energy scarce region of Africa.

So specifically we are still raising money to purchase a CNC machine (uses computer to cut, carve and etch on various materials automatically) which costs $10,000 (currently raised $6000) and raising money for our Solar Suit Case that we are building $2500 (equipment/support/program). Any support from you will help us continue this great educational process with our students. Thank you.
