The Imhotep Center's mission is to develop and implement cultural, STEAM, and intergenerational curriculum, training and effective learning models for youth and communities, particular focus will be given to communities of African heritage in Minnesota.
Imhotep Science Academy (Program/Collaborative)
Saturday/afterschool science program for children of African descent. This program immersed students in the best of African culture and practices while engaging students in the African intellectual traditions of STEAM.
Currently, Imhotep is focusing social entrepreneurial activities and sustainable energy research and projects in St. Paul. ISA developed The Solar Peace Collective (SPC) which is a cohort of ISA studernts working with community members, artists and engineers that use solar power to help create peace in our communities. The Collective will use their talents, skills and insight to create art and engineering products to bring about peacefulness. ISA wants to provide opportunities to their youth to learn about justice, peace-making, engineering/STEM and social enterprising concepts/cooperative economics principles in community building. We are working with community Elders such as Melvin Giles, Peace activist in developing his idea for solar peace poles. ISA students research, develop and build sustainable energy products that can help spread peace in our communities. We use mentors and experts to assist with concepts and designs. Furthermore, students can make and sell peace merchandise to help bring in funds to continue their research and development.
