Give the Gift of Affordable Housing

Our team of developers, preservationists, and community partners have a plan to create 84 affordable live/work units for creatives and their families within the Northrup King Building in Northeast Minneapolis. Plans are great, but we successfully serve our communities when we have the funding to complete construction—and we need your help.

This Give to the Max Day, we are looking for 84 supporters to make a donation, in any amount, to help close the funding gap needed to start construction on the 84 residential units. Please take a moment to give the gift of affordable housing today.

Northrup King Campus

As you probably already know, the Northrup King Building is home to over 350 tenants, including artist studios, creative small businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Together, the incredible NKB community organizes and participates in some of the most exciting and well-attended open studio art crawl events in the state—contributing to the creative economy and local vitality of the area.

The current studios of Northrup King comprise 10 warehouse buildings and through the expertise of Artspace, continue to preserve affordability and historic charm. With your support, the complex will expand to become a full-on arts campus that includes:

  • 84 affordable residential units.

  • 8,120 square feet of space community space for nonprofits and creative businesses.

  • Eco-friendly improvements to the parking lot, utilities, and storm drainage.

  • A brand new bike trail across the campus that bridges the Central Ave bike lane with the Great Northern Greenway to create even greater connectivity in the heart of the thriving Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.

Our Track Record

Over our 40+ years of experience as a nonprofit, we’ve learned a thing or two about providing affordable spaces. That’s pretty evident in our successful construction or preservation of five mixed-use buildings in the Twin Cities, four mixed-use buildings in Greater Minnesota, eight single-family homes, and five art facilities. We’ve learned that as buildings are created brick by brick, so too are they created donation by donation.

That’s why we are asking you, friends, to be part of the structural foundation that provides 84 families with affordable housing at what will become the Northrup King Campus.

Every donation adds up and only together can we make a large impact.

  • $5 helps ensure every door in the building has a secure lock.
  • $10 supports the preservation of the historic wood and flooring of a unit.
  • $25 helps restore the windows in a unit.
  • $50 aids in providing each unit with the necessary heating and plumbing.
  • $100 contributes to eco-friendly updates inside and around the property.

Donate today, in any amount, to help meet our goal of 84 contributions by November 16.
