As we in the U.S. feel the fog of the pandemic lift, COVID-19 has drastically worsened in India. In the past weeks, India has set new world records daily. Area hospitals and crematoriums are stretched beyond capacity.
For the schoolchildren LPGM supports, life has been turned upside down over the past 15 months. While they once relied upon the safety, nourishment, and emotional support provided by our partner's boarding homes, they have been mostly in lockdown since this last year. As most of their parents are migrant farmers, many of the students had to go and live with relatives this past year as parents sought work abroad. Child marriage became an unfortunate "solution" for several of the girls.
Our mission at LPGM is to provide education to people at the margins - especially women and girls. We believe this is the best way to break cycles of poverty, malnourishment, illiteracy, and child marriage, and to instead lift people up to better futures.
We need your help to provide dry food rations and medical supplies to these students today, and to engage them academically through safe, outdoor education in their villages.
May God bless you for caring for these children and young people in what is likely the most difficult time in their lives.
