We Believe

Artistic expression connects us with our internal and external landscapes

Artists need time, space, and uninterrupted focus to create work

Mentorship and guidance are critical for all stages of creative development

Dialogue enhances the artistic process and develops shared understanding

Connecting through the arts builds healthy and resilient communities

What We Do

From May to September we offer a classes in ceramics, drawing, literary arts, mixed-media, painting, printmaking, sculpture and more. From October to April, we offer opportunities for artists of every caliber to use our studios for residencies and exhibitions and public engagement opportunities. Our two signature events are the Grand Marais Arts Festival, held every July, and the North Shore Readers and Writers Festival, held every other year.

How to Support Our Work

The Annual Fund is a driving force for the Art Colony. It sustains the innovative programming, studio access, scholarships, and resources that make this institution exceptional. More importantly, it propels artists toward our bold vision to become a powerful space for facilitating dialogue on issues facing the Great Lakes Region through aesthetic inquiry and artistic experimentation. How? With support from donors like you.

Your gifts equip exceptional artists to turn their demiurgic ideas into meaningful action, embrace change and make a difference. You are the force that drives the Art Colony - and artists - forward. You are the power behind The Annual Fund.
