Flight Expo, Inc is:

An aviation  non-profit 501(c)(3).

Apart from preserving historical aircraft, our mission is to inspire and educate the next generation of engineers, pilots and aircraft mechanics. In 2013 we started a Build A Plane program for youth ages 12 - 18 year old.  By engaging today's youth in an exciting hands-on learning experience we are giving them the skills and confidence to create bigger and brighter futures for themselves and our community.

What is Build A Plane?

The Build-A-Plane program by Flight Expo is an interactive program that allows students to build a full scale aircraft. It teaches students different mechanical skills such as welding, riveting, fabric covering, and similar aspects that are used in aircraft construction. Students in the Build-A-Plane program also have increased access to the Flight Expo Flying Club, where students may fly aircraft and take flight training lessons or study ground school in order to become a pilot.

Flight Expo Flying Club:

Students in the Build A Plane program have access to the Flight Expo Flying Club. In this club students who attend Build A Plane get a massive discount on flying lessons that they use to obtain their pilots license. Flight Expo has already allowed several students to begin their flight training and further their interest and career in aviation.  Currently, we have 2 new Private Pilots and another one to receive his license in 2021.

Why is this program important?

In the United States there is a shortage of scientist, engineers, pilots and aircraft mechanics. In order to change this decline we need to find away to motivate our youth to learn and enjoy subjects in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The Build A Plane program is a fun and great way to get students involved in STEM through which will also give today's youth the skills and talents to overcome challenges we face on a global scale.

Risks and challenges

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit that runs off  volunteers and limited resources, our biggest challenge is funding. The $500 that we raise from this campaign will go towards materials needed to finish one of our aircraft!
