About

Family Tree Clinic patient waiting roomFamily Tree Clinic is a change agent disguised as a sexual health and education center. Since 1971, Family Tree Clinic has been cultivating a healthy community through comprehensive sexual health care and education. We serve over 20,000 people each year.

We believe health care is a human right. Which is why we center people most marginalized by major health care systems. 78% of our patients are LGBTQIA+, 32% are BIPOC, and 40% live below the federal poverty level.

We never turn anyone away for an inability to pay.

We believe in the power of community. Our clinic is not just a healthcare provider; it's a healing space where people come to receive joyful and affirming care and education.

Your support

From longer-than-average visit times and specialized LGBTQ services, to provider training and inclusive health education, your support enables us to provide life affirming, trauma informed care. But we know that barriers to care aren’t just legal – they’re also financial. This Give to the Max Day, we’re asking for our community’s support in removing financial barriers to care through a dedicated patient access fund.

The We Are Family Fund is a dedicated patient access fund. This fund will offset the healthcare costs of patients who are underinsured or uninsured, while working with patients to set up a monthly payment, if any, in an amount that’s meaningful to them.

To show up in this way for our communities, it takes nearly $5 million each year. That's our commitment to:

- A patient who will lose their insurance coverage due to Medicaid cuts
- A teenager looking for free and confidential birth control
- A person who is concerned about sharing their immigration status with the state to qualify for medical assistance
- A trans person who just move
d to Minnesota, seeking care and community in their new home

Why now?

We’re in a critical moment for sexual, reproductive, and gender affirming care. Clinic closures across the state are straining the already-limited resources of remaining clinics. Powerful lawmakers are targeting clinics like ours that offer essential, life-affirming gender and reproductive care. Cuts to Medicaid by federal lawmakers are estimated to result in the loss of coverage for as many as 140,000 Minnesotans.

At this critical juncture, the future is ours to create. Together, we’re creating a vision of how healthcare should be – and opening our doors even wider.

We won’t pre-emptively comply with pressure to break our commitments to one another. As a sliding scale clinic, we’re committed to ensuring sexual and reproductive care is accessible for all.

But we can’t do this work alone. Which is why we need your help.

By contributing to the We Are Family Fund, we have the opportunity to protect access to joyful, affirming care. Your contribution helps keep Minnesota’s promise to protect bodily autonomy through real, everyday access to care for people in our communities. We’re linking arms with our community to protect access to care when it’s needed the most.

Our strongest safety net is woven from solidarity and community care.

Will you donate today to increase access to joyful and affirming care for all?
