About

Family Tree Clinic patient waiting roomFamily Tree Clinic is a change agent disguised as a sexual health and education center. Since 1971, Family Tree Clinic has been cultivating a healthy community through comprehensive sexual health care and education. We serve over 20,000 people each year.

We believe health care is a human right. Which is why we center people most marginalized by major health care systems. 78% of our patients are LGBTQIA+, 32% are BIPOC, and 40% live below the federal poverty level.

We never turn anyone away for an inability to pay.

We believe in the power of community. Our clinic is not just a healthcare provider; it's a healing space where people come to receive joyful and affirming care and education.

Your support

From longer-than-average visit times and specialized LGBTQ services, to provider training and inclusive health education, your support enables us to innovate in ways that larger health care systems simply cannot.

To show up in this way for our communities, it takes nearly $5 million each year. That's our commitment to:

- A teenager looking for free and confidential birth control

- A 5th grader who wants to know if these feelings are normal

- A person who has experienced trauma and needs safe gynecological care

- A parent learning how to support their child as they explore their gender identity

- A family traveling hundreds of miles for life-saving care that is banned in their home state

Why now?

We have the opportunity to lead health care access nationwideIn the face of growing restrictions on reproductive and gender affirming care across the country, with threats increasingly moving to the federal level, Minnesota has passed historic legislation safeguarding this care in our state.

But laws alone are not enough. It's up to us to ensure that these legal protections translate into real-world access. The demand for our services is growing locally, and as more people travel from states where care is restricted. Last year, visits to our clinic increased by 40%. We've also trained 83 providers in rural areas of the upper Midwest, ensuring trans and gender expansive people can access excellent care in their home communities.

Family Tree was featured by NPR, online and on All Things Considered, for our vital work as a refuge. We are proud to be leading nationally as a destination clinic. But our work is far from over. The heartbreaking reality that the huge challenges people face in trying to access care are not just legal - they're financial.

Which is why we need your help. As a sliding scale clinic, Family Tree is committed to ensuring this access remains for anyone who needs it, but funding our work is a growing challenge.

Will you donate today to help us open our doors even wider?
