We're Still Here

For over 45 years, Calvary Food Shelf has shown up for this community. When ICE enforcement surged in our neighborhood and fear kept families from leaving their homes, we brought food directly to their doors. By March, we were serving more than 16,000 people a month (mainly via deliveries), up from 2,700+ in November. Between January and March alone we distributed more than 300,000 pounds of food.

The surge has eased. The need has not. So far this year, we have distributed more than 600,000 pounds of food. In September, we served 4,000 neighbors across 1,000 households, including 1,400 children. That is 20% more people than in August and demand is significantly higher than it was this time last year.

Families are also feeling the impact of federal SNAP changes. In Minnesota, nearly 20,000 people have lost SNAP benefits, and nearly 1 in 3 households with children are food insecure.

Food shelf visitors shop and choose their own items in our store-like space. Calvary staff and volunteers help create a safe and welcoming environment.

We always offer a variety of fresh produce.We offer milk, eggs, butter, cheese, meat and more.

In August, we offered a free farmers market, with over 8,000 pounds of fresh produce distributed.During Operation Metro Surge we held additional distributions at George Floyd Square.
