Traveling Nature Tots will take our existing successful Nature Tots program that is held at the Prairie Ecology Bus Center headquarters in Sparks Park and take the program to new locations.
Currently, Nature Tots is the third Wednesday of the month at the Prairie Ecology Bus Center.
The benefits to introducing children to nature have been well researched and documented.
Benefits of being outdoors include:
Gets kids moving
Building confidence
Increases creativity and imagination
Reduces stress
Being outdoors is very good for kids, but many kids are spending only 4-7 minutes outside each day playing. Kids are spending so little time outside that many are uncomfortable about being in the outdoors. Being unaware of plants, bugs, animals, and weather means the kids are too nervous to relax, explore, and enjoy their natural surroundings.
PEBC Nature Tots program introduces the kids to nature at a young age. PEBC naturalists use activities, crafts, songs, and natural exploration to teach kids about nature. The current program is only in Sparks Park. Traveling Nature Tots will bring the program to daycares and preschools in the surrounding area free of charge.
Benefits of Traveling Nature Tots include:
Nature Tots will reach more children. It can be difficult for families to find time to attend programs. Bringing the program to where the kids are during the day will solve this problem.
Teaches kids that nature can be found wherever they are-at home, at daycare, or at school. Nature is not only found in state and national parks, but can be found everywhere.
Help childcare centers and schools provide a range of activities for children.
Donate today to support increasing children’s confidence in being outdoors, their understanding of the natural world, and their future commitment to preserving that natural world.
