I am proud to work for Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa, cultivating a community of emerging leaders in service to people and the planet. As a conservation focused workforce development program, we train young adults with technical and leadership skills and provide opportunities for them to practice them through environmental service on public lands. Chances are the last park, trail, riverway or natural area you have visited in MN or IA was touched by CCMI Corpsmembers. I have watched these young adults gain skills and grow into conservation and service leaders.
And oh the work they have done! Over the past five years, more than 1,900 youth and young adults from Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa (CCMI) have planted over a quarter of a million trees and improved nearly 3,500 miles of trails/ waterways. CCMI Corpsmembers also responded to fires (including the Camp House & Jenkins Creek fires in MN) and disaster response (flooding & derecho damage in Hawaii, MN & IA as well as hurricane clean up in North Carolina and Guam.)
CCMI was impacted by the unexpected AmeriCorps funding reductions earlier this year, and although we were instructed to terminate their service, CCMI absorbed the cost to honor their commitment and found ways to move them to other grants. In the process though, some of the 2025 Corpsmembers would be facing a decrease in the Education Award they had been counting on receiving at the end of their service term. Once again, though, CCMI is committed to making them whole despite the reduced funding! We need your help to raise the remaining $20,000 to make up the difference!
