With approximately 132 residents, Erhard is a small, close-knit community in Otter Tail County. A recent census profile indicates that over 20% of the population is under the age of 10, highlighting a significant youth demographic that would benefit directly from new equipment.
The current playground equipment is over 30 years old, and most of it was used when we acquired it. It isn't as safe as we would like it to be and is inaccessible to children with mobility challenges. Our families need this equipment and our community wants to provide it. But we need your help.
The community, businesses, and city leaders are behind this project. The 4th of July Committee, a 501(c) non profit, is leading this effort.
Replacing the equipment is a high-priority, city-led initiative that has garnered broad community support.
Our project will:
- Replace outdated equipment: Remove all outdated and non-compliant playground equipment from the Erhard City Park playground sites.
- Install new, modern equipment: Procure and install new playground structures featuring slides, swings, climbing elements, and inclusive components for children of varying abilities.
- Enhance safety surfacing: Install new, accessible surfacing to prevent injuries and meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
- Promote community engagement: Hold a "Community Build Day" to engage the community in preparing the site and assisting with the installation, fostering a sense of ownership and collaboration.
- Secure long-term maintenance: The City of Erhard will assume full responsibility for the new playground's ongoing maintenance, ensuring its longevity for future generations.
