Third Space Theater is officially 1 year old! And we're just getting started :)

What began as five ambitious, creative friends sharing ideas over dinner has now grown into a magical year full of storytelling, creation, and community. We've learned so much this last year and are electrified by the response to our work. We've got a lot of big plans, but first we need your help to make it happen.

And the best part is, your gift to TST supports not just good art, but art that does good.

TST is dedicated to making creative work that challenges artists and audiences with new ideas, stories, and aesthetics while also connecting people to quality local resources working to improve their communities. TST provides a safe, third space (away from home and work) to chew on important stories via conversation, community, and collective action.

All full productions partner with a local organization (“Partner Org”) working on the themes of the show right here in the Twin Cities. Organizations are invited to table at performances, participate in post-show discussions, advertise their work freely in the playbill, and receive a portion of ticket sales as a donation after the production.

In our first year alone, we've:

Participants in our second Monologue and Character Workshop

  • Held 2 public audition workshops for local performers looking for space to practice their craft
  • Announced 2 more playwriting workshops where writers can gather with other writers and try new approaches to storytelling. Workshops will take place later this November
  • Produced the 2x award-winning show BREACH at the 2025 MN Fringe Festival
    • Featuring an ensemble cast, gorgeous practical effects, and one giant crab puppet, Breach was the most reviewed show of the 2025 MN Fringe and took home the Venue Pick and Artist Pick Golden Lanyard Awards.

  • Presented at the MN New Theater Conference
    • We were invited to give a keynote presentation, "Devising as a Developing Company" on our experience creating BREACH as an artistic ensemble while simultaneously creating our company structure.
  • Executed our Community Partnership model of production
    • We paired our production of BREACH with Freshwater, a MN-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering people to preserve and protect clean water. We promoted Freshwater events in-person at performances and over social media, and donated 10% of ticket sales- a $500 donation
  • Started rehearsals for our first full production, Plano by Will Arbery, performing January 9-18 at Mixed Blood Theater in Minneapolis
    • The grand finale to our first season! In this lightning fast comedy, three sisters find the trajectories of their lives and the very fabric of reality around them transfigured by the emotions of men. Days fly by in seconds, husbands split into two, and the mistakes of the past, present, and future roar in the apathetic gravity of Plano. "Let's talk about family nightmares. I mean memories."
    • Our production will partner with Tubman, a Twin Cities-based nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing opportunities for change so that every person can experience safety, hope, and healing. For nearly 50 years, Tubman has helped people of all ages, gender identities, and cultural backgrounds who face relationship violence, trafficking, homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, or other trauma.

As we look to the future, we're invigorated by the work ahead. Coming up, we've got plans to:

  • Develop another original show
  • Produce our second published work
  • Expand our workshop offerings
  • Increase artist stipends

But we cannot do it without your support. Your gift today helps us continue to provide creative third spaces for the Twin Cities community to practice the performing arts and chew on important ideas. Your support allows us to create theater that is sticky, challenging, and takes audiences to dangerous places.

And to show our gratitude, we also want to give back! All donors will receive early access to purchase tickets to our upcoming production of Plano. AND once we hit each of the following milestones in this campaign, we will...

  • $2,000 - Release 3 emojis that hint at our next original work
  • $5,000 - Reveal 3 works of art that are inspiring our next published play
  • $10,000 - Reveal our next published play!
