Eastside Meals on Wheels

Federal funding for local Meals on Wheels programs has largely returned to pre-pandemic levels following the expiration of temporary COVID-19 emergency aid. Meals on Wheels America continues to advocate for increased federal funding. However, we were only able to secure flat funding once again in 2026. 

Flat funding fails to account for the rising costs of food, transportation and labor -- compounded by the rapidly growing senior population and increased need for services. I.e., we are serving significantly more clients food that is significantly more expensive, with a budget similar to what we had in 2020.

More seniors are seeking us out with the expiration of their SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown.  In addition, the historic cuts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are poised to compound food insecurity. 

As our senior neighbors face increasing hunger and hardship, your support helps us continue our mission to deliver food and care.

Your donation helps Eastside Meals on Wheels provide nutritious meals in Northeast Minneapolis, Southeast Minneapolis, and St. Anthony Village. 

We serve adults sixty years of age or older who cannot prepare or shop for their own adequate meals. We never deny meals for those who qualify, regardless of their ability to contribute towards the cost.
