Rescue Now: A Story of Food, Shelter, and a Path Home

Every day, someone in our community is facing a crisis they never expected. A missed paycheck. A sudden health issue. A job loss. A family disruption. In moments like these, people turn to Rescue Now because they know they will find compassion, dignity, and immediate support.

Rescue Now Services' mission is simple: meet the immediate needs of neighbors experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. Since 2004, we have been doing exactly that – offering warm meals, a safe place to rest, and a pathway to stability for anyone who walks through our doors.

Our work began with The Lord’s Kitchen, a weekly dinner that brought people together for food, friendship, and community. That spirit continues today through our three programs that serve hundreds of neighbors each year.

At Good Works Food Shelf, families come to pick up groceries that help them bridge the gap when rising costs or unexpected challenges make it hard to keep food on the table. Parents leave with bags of culturally appropriate groceries, fresh produce, pantry staples, and a sense of relief. During the holidays, the need grows even more. Your support ensures we can keep saying “yes” to every family who comes to us for help.

At Rescue Now Shelter, up to 50 unsheltered community members arrive each night looking for warmth, safety, and rest. We provide an evening meal, basic needs, and a calm, person-centered environment. Guests often tell us they feel safe and respected, which is at the heart of how we operate. As we move toward year-round shelter services, community support is critical to keeping our doors open during Minnesota’s coldest months.

Through our Housing and Rapid Rehousing Program, we help single adults move from homelessness into stable housing. We support them with housing navigation, rental assistance, and services that help remove barriers to securing a lease. This program connects the entire journey: food today, shelter tonight, stable housing tomorrow.

Your donation to Rescue Now supports all three programs. It ensures families have groceries during the holiday season, individuals experiencing homelessness have a safe place to sleep, and those transitioning out of crisis have help finding a home of their own.
