Who Is Minneapolis’s Judson Memorial Baptist Church
Judson’s Mission:
Judson is a spiritual community, grounded in providing sanctuary for all who enter. We are continually opening ourselves to the healing power of God’s love. We are following the life of Jesus by honoring our deepest differences, seeking justice and mercy for everyone, discovering and using our personal gifts, and nurturing our children. Our foundational prayer of welcome is:
Bring Your Hopes. Bring Your Doubts. Feed Your Soul
We are proud to receive your gift because your contribution enables Judson to be a flourishing, joy-filled, and healing community. Join us Sundays at 9:30 am.
Where will I find Judson Memorial Baptist Church in the community?
Just about everywhere. Dr. Jane Goodall said, “What you do makes a difference, and only you can decide what kind of difference you will make.” While 115-old Judson has a tradition of National and International outreach, in the last few years, we have become more involved solving issues affecting our South Minneapolis Neighbors. The following is a brief overview of Judson making a difference.
- Neighborhood efforts using the Judson building
- Agreeing to provide space for the Kingfield South Neighborhood Association,
resulted in one neighbor labeling us "The Kingfield Community Center with a
Church building in It" - Hosting the Meals on Wheels kitchen and delivering 36,000 meals to neighbors
- Hosting the Empty Bowls events-raising over $30,000 for local non-profits
- Hosting Upstander Trainings (for legal observers) by Monar, with more than 300
people in attendance after only a one-day notice - Providing meeting space for neighborhood groups and civic organizations
2) Events emanating from or organized at Judson
- Moral Mondays -a weekly constitutionally protected peaceful protest of current
administration policies. 4:30 PM-corners of 40th St and Lyndale Ave - Tunnel of Love on Lyndale Avenue-showing support for the Annunciation Church
and School community - Providing housing, training space, and meals for many of the 600+ visiting clergy
in town for the January “Ice Out 0f Minnesota” march in downtown Minneapolis
3) Directing financial Help
- Distributing over $30,000 in direct personal aid
- Directing over $145,000 of support/mutual aid/ or in-kind donations
- Over the last ten years, Judson members have created 25 Personal Missions by
inserting themselves into other localities and attempting to improve the
personal circumstances of the local folks. These Personal Missions were
underwritten by over $93,000 from our Gordon Smith “Spreading the Word”
foundation. - We continued to support our Judson members Joel Hoefel and Trish Magal, and
their Shapan Orphanage near the Thailand - Myanmar border for Myanmar
refugees whose parents either have or died from HIV/AIDS.
