At the end of October and early November, we took in a rash of animals with major medical issues. We had a cat named Alex, that had a huge abscess at the base of her tail, and her tail needed to be amputated. We had a kitten named Phoenix, that was tortured by kids, and after a valiant attempt to save him, we had to help him across the rainbow bridge. Rocky, a cat who's leg had been caught in a trap, required an amputation and several days of hospitalization. Monty was a dog that had been hit by a semi truck, and had been dragging his back legs for more than a week. He had a broken back, and we couldn't save him. For a rescue that prides ourselves in an extremely low euthanasia rate, to have to euthanize two animals in just over a week is heartbreaking. We just couldn't see them continue to suffer. Weeks like this are super hard on us.

And at the same time, we're working on getting ready for our spay/neuter & vaccination clinic in mid-November, and keeping our LTAR Community Vetting Program going. We need to help keep the animal population under control to avoid the tragedies that have struck other reservations, when people get bit or are killed by packs of dogs. Because we don't do adoptions, we have no regular income. We pay for this through donations, fundraising and grants.
