My Voice. Our Chorus. Every Voice Counts.

In 2017, I walked through the doors of the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus for the first time. I didn’t fully realize it then, but I was joining far more than a choir — I was stepping into a family. A refuge. A voice for love, dignity, and joy in a world that too often tries to silence us.

Since then, I’ve sung, laughed, cried, marched, and grown with this chorus. I’ve watched it become a lifeline for newcomers finding their identity, a space where long-time members can share their wisdom, and a home where artistry meets advocacy.

We are not just performers — we are truth-tellers in harmony.

In today’s political climate, our mission matters more than ever. Across the country, LGBTQIA+2S rights are under attack. Drag bans, anti-trans legislation, book censorship, and rhetoric aimed at erasing queer and trans lives are on the rise. And now, with the recent withdrawal of federal arts funding, organizations like ours face a new kind of silencing — not just political, but financial.

But we are still here. And we are not quiet.

The music we make isn’t just beautiful — it’s defiant. It’s healing. It’s visibility. Every time we take the stage, we say: We exist. We are worthy. We thrive together. Whether we’re singing in concert halls or at Pride festivals, whether our voices are in three-part harmony or standing solo — we are telling a story that needs to be heard.

This year, for Give Out Day 2025, I’m raising funds for Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus because I believe in the power of queer voices raised together. I believe in the young person in the audience who sees us and feels seen. I believe in our elders who never thought they’d live to see something like this. I believe in music as resistance, as hope, as connection.

I believe every voice counts.
