About AAOP

Asian American Organizing Project (AAOP) is a non-partisan, grassroots organizing and civic engagement organization led by young Asian people whom are mostly 35 years old and under, women, girls, LGBTQ, student, disabled, and who are or come from families of refugee and immigrant experience.

Our mission is to advance Asian American, refugee, and immigrant participation in democracy for equitable and just society.  The money will support youth development programs that provides hands-on community and leadership development of high school and college students and young people.

We believe that one of the multiple ways to affect institutional and systemic change in Minnesota is through our Asian American voting power; guided by gender justice, raising political consciousness, and providing resources and access to information. AAOP at the Walker Art Center mini golf course with a mini golf hole designed by our Youth Action Team inspired by Hmong culture and art.

About our #GiveToTheMax campaign:

This month, AAOP is raising $5,000 to continue building our work. Since 2016, we've cultivated the leadership of over 100 young Asian leaders in Minnesota -- many who become organizers, community leaders, and even staff at our organization. Our programming includes an Organizing Fellowship program, Youth Fellowship Program, Gender Justice internship program, Communications internships, and canvassing -- where youth and young people spend the summer developing their leadership skills, cultivating community connections, and learning their own history.

Young leaders who have been involved with our programs, whether that’s the summer program or internships, have conducted participatory action research on Asian attitudes on abortion access and policing, compiled and edited zines, produced the New Narratives podcast, crafted community stories, and created election education materials to create voter accessibility.

Our work has also included reaching out to Asians and Asian Americans across Minnesota to mobilize them to vote in the 2022 Midterm Election. We helped host the largest coordinated API canvass in Minnesota alongside our partner organizations and continued to prioritize our on-the-ground voter engagement. Our youth re-granting program provided funds to Karen youth to create a mentorship program and social and educational activities for at-risk teens. We hosted a variety of workshops and events aimed at creating healthy spaces for community members to learn about reproductive justice, sexual wellness, and advocacy. As a member of the UnRestrict Coalition, we continued to fight for abortion access and reproductive rights, especially in light of the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Community members turn out to canvass Asians to inform them about the midterm elections.

We know that our work is not over. There is always much to do. Will you contribute to make sure that we can build a better tomorrow for all of us?
