Athletic Field & School Garden for Spero Academy

Spero Academy is dedicated to the personal growth and development of every child. This year, our district is taking on two important initiatives that will further support the development of our students and the community. 

ATHLETIC FIELD

Team sports are hugely beneficial to child development. In addition to providing the physical activity children need for healthy bodies and minds, participating in school sports teaches teamwork, promotes sportsmanship, and builds confidence. The field at Spero Academy harbors great potential as an accessible multi-activity outdoor space, where team sports could thrive. 

As it stands, the field is undeveloped and does not fully meet the needs of our students. The newly envisioned field will include space to engage in physical movement, sports, and an obstacle course. This will include a basketball court, sports field/track, hiking path, baseball diamond, obstacle course and fences to divide up activity areas.

OUR SCHOOL GARDEN

Gardening is another activity shown to foster child development. School gardens have been a feature of public education and a point of community involvement for more than a century. These gardens have been described as “living laboratories” where students participate in hands-on learning with opportunities to increase their knowledge of agriculture and nutritional science. It’s also an opportunity to get out of the classroom, move their bodies and engage their senses without leaving the learning behind.
