Help Make Co-op Ownership Accessible to Everyone
Wasatch Food Co-op is being built on a simple idea: the people who shop at their grocery store should have the opportunity to own it, have a voice in how it operates, and help shape its future.
But for households already navigating the rising costs of food, housing, childcare, and other necessities, the $300 cost of becoming a Wasatch Food Co-op member-owner can be a significant barrier.
That’s why we created LIME: Limited Income Membership Entry.
$300 = One New Member-Owner
LIME provides a fully funded $300 Co-op membership for qualifying limited-income and food-insecure members of our community.
LIME recipients become member-owners just like any other Co-op member, with access to member benefits, store discounts, and—most importantly—a vote in the future of their grocery store.
A $300 contribution can fully fund one household’s membership, but gifts of any size can help us build the LIME fund and welcome more people into our Co-op community.
Why LIME Matters
Food insecurity and financial strain affect families throughout Utah and right here in Salt Lake City. Approximately 445,000 Utahns are experiencing food insecurity, including 1 in 5 Utah children. In Salt Lake County alone, more than 72,000 residents participated in SNAP in 2025.
And financial hardship doesn’t always fit neatly into one category. LIME is designed to recognize that.
Households may automatically qualify based on income or participation in SNAP or WIC, while other circumstances—including food insecurity, unemployment or unstable income, significant household financial strain, single-caregiver households, and neighborhood food-access conditions—may also be considered.
Help Us Build a Co-op That Reflects Our Community
A cooperative is strongest when the people who live in its community have the opportunity to own it. Income shouldn’t determine who gets a voice.
Your contribution to LIME helps Wasatch Food Co-op build accessibility into our community from the very beginning. LIME-designated contributions are separately accounted for and restricted to supporting eligible member equity and permitted program administration, with regular reporting to the Wasatch Food Co-op Board.
Whether you give $10, $50, $100, or fund an entire $300 membership, you’re helping create a community-owned grocery store where more of our neighbors have the opportunity to belong, participate, and have a voice.
Help us grow the LIME fund and create the next Wasatch Food Co-op member-owner.
Thank you for your support!
As its fiscal sponsor, the Cooperative Development Fund of CDS will use your gift to benefit the Wasatch Food Co-op in a manner consistent with the Fund's charitable purpose to support the wise use and development of cooperatively owned businesses.
