Hello, my name is Victoria Platcek. I am currently 16 years old, and in 11th grade. I am a second year Senior in Girl Scouting, and have been a Girl Scout for 10 years starting as a Daisy in First grade.

In 5th grade my Girl Scout Troop and I earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest Award a Girl Scout Junior can earn. For this project my troop found a need in our community for the relocation of water runoff from a building which was causing ice to form on the side walks creating a danger to community members, and polution in Lake Superior. To solve this problem my troop built 3 rain water gardens to combat the water runoff from the building, and also beautify our community by planting flowers that are native to our area in the garden boxes.

In 8th Grade I as well as another girl from my troop earned the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest Award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. For this project we identified the need for affordable Medical Equipment in our community. We then connected with our local Co-op Light and Power. They agreed to provide an area where we could store medical equipment, and the items would also be readily avaible to the community. We then got gently used medical equipment such as, crutches, wheel chairs, walkers, and canes donated from community members. Finally we set up the "Medical Borrowing Closet" which makes medical equipment avalible to the community to borrow and return without any cost to them.

I am now in 11th Grade and am going to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award which is the hightest Award a Girl Scout can earn. This award requires a Girl Scout to use skills she has developed from her pass acheivements as well as develop new skills in the areas of public speaking, business writing, communication, organization, budgeting, grant application process, and project managemant. The Award is rigourous, and is meant to show the real potential that a woman has to change the world around her.

For my project I will be providing the oppurtunity for the community of Lake County to become CPR certified. I will acheive this by providing the Lake County Search and Rescue Squad with CPR training equipment that is up-to-date with the standards of the American Heart Association regarding the equipment that their instructor uses. With that, a certified CPR instructor on the Lake County Search and Rescue Squad has volunteered to offer CPR Training classes to the community of Lake County.

Through these classes the community will become equipped with the skills, and the confidence needed to perform life-saving medical care to a person suffering from Cardiac Arrest. Making our community a safer place for all members. A minimum of 4 classes will be offered seasonally per year with a minimum of 40 participants per year. More classes will be provided, should the need arise.

All donatons will go towards the purchase of equipment and are greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking time to hear a bit about my project. -Victoria Platcek
