Safe Hands Rescue is hosting their Virtual Fur Ball Gala for the second year in a row, and I'm raising funds on their behalf! Our goal is to raise $100,000 for the renovation of the barn at The Safe House in Kentucky into an animal holding ward with safe, clean kennel runs where dogs and cats can get the medical attention and food they desperately need before making the long trip up north.
Our pack, three of the Mine Dogs, was rescued from a difficult and dangerous life at an abandoned coal mine by the tireless efforts of volunteers, and generous help of donors like you. They had no medical care, no dependable source of food, little shelter, and no protection from predators except their wits and their pack.
Enter Safe Hands, and wonderful allies like Miss Becky. First were the puppies, then one, then three more of the adult members of this little tribe were rescued. After a year and a half more, Henry, the final pack member, allowed himself to be rescued. Our three were tightly bonded, and came to foster first with first Lynne, then they moved to their forever family, Jackie and Mike (that's me). Without Safe Hands, they would not have had a long or easy life. Now, their biggest difficulty is which soft cushy spot they want to lie on, or what toy they want to play tug with. Martin and Lexie like to wrestle and play Bumper Cars . Jack is still the watcher, after all this time, his role as their guardian is still part of his mission, but now he is content to depend on us to be his guardian. Jack loves toys now. Certainly, play is not something he would have been able to indulge in, now. Now, Martin gets his belly rubs, almost as often as he wants. :-) Lexie no longer needs to scavenge for food, she just picks the Raspberries because she loves them.
That is our dogs' stories, they once were abandoned, now they have a family who adores them. There are countless other dogs and cats who would be so happy, and could make people happy too, if we can get them the help they deserve so much, and get them into foster. Then, their people will find them at last.
Safe Hands Rescue gives homeless pets a second chance to have a great life. If you have a companion animal, you know that we don’t just rescue them…they rescue us too. They bring happiness, make us laugh and give us comfort. We give them the best days of their lives and in return they give us the best days of ours.
That’s why I’m participating in the Safe Hands Virtual Furball, and why I’m inviting you to join me in donating to the cause. There are so many more companion animals like these, who want to be saved. In challenging times like these our companion animals are there with us and for us. They see us through hard times. Challenging times like these tend to bring out the best in people. Your gift today will help save lives, share joy and create love.
