The Raptor Center - Give to the Max Day 2022

Founded in 1974 by Dr. Gary Duke and Dr. Patrick Redig, The Raptor Center's mission is to ensure the health of raptors and the world we share. We specialize in the medical care, rehabilitation, and conservation of eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons. 

Our specialized hospital admits around 1,000 birds of prey each year with the goal of rehabilitation and release back to the wild. 

This year, the avian community was hit with an unprecedented outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) - a virus that is 90% - 100% fatal in raptors. While many avian rehabilitation centers were closing due to the devastating affects of this highly contagious virus, The Raptor Center made the difficult decision to remain open and continue helping raptors in need. Donning full PPE and utilizing extreme biosecurity measures, we jumped into action, admitting over 750 patients just since early April. This decision not only allowed us to help raptors who were suffering, but also allowed us to gather critical data that we were then able to share with the wildlife conservation community worldwide. 

This past year has been a whirlwind of devastating, exhausting, illuminating, and hopeful days that have served as yet another way to illustrate the intersection of animal, human, and ecological health. This year has shown us that our mission is essential and important to the overall ecosystem and fueled us to continue with this critical work.

Our clinic is nearly 100% funded by donor support. We literally could not do what we do without the generous support of donors like you. We need your partnership and hope you will join us on this mission.
