25,000 ETHIOPIAN REFUGEES HAVE CROSSED INTO SUDAN IN THE LAST WEEK

Food, medicines, and relief items are among the items needed most... Alight is supporting thousands of Ethiopian refugees who've recently arrived in Sudan with lifesaving services. Conflict in northern Ethiopia has been building over the last several weeks and came to a head over the weekend. Alight is providing lifesaving medical care for those who've fled to Sudan’s Kassala state, where we are UNHCR’s main partner on the ground. We're also providing clean water in the region, and we are listening and responsive to the emerging needs of this vulnerable population.

What’s happening in Ethiopia right now is complicated and threatens to embroil the entire region and endanger the lives of millions of people,” says Daniel Wordsworth, Alight CEO. “Our team in Sudan is ready. They’re used to providing critical medical care, clean water and other lifesaving support to thousands of people every day.

Donations made now will be matched by a generous supporter. Support can't come too soon - 100,000 more refugees are expected to arrive in Sudan in the coming weeks! And more than a quarter are children.

Supporting Alight's response now includes supporting:

  • Special precautions/PPEs for COVID-19 safety
  • Medical Care
  • Clean Water
  • Food, medicines, and relief items.

The Sudanese are an amazingly hospitable and generous people. And they’re doing all they can to receive and support Ethiopian families who’ve come for safe haven,” said Heidi Diedrich, Alight’s Sudan Country Director. “But with the challenges of COVID-19, we can use all the support we can get.”
