Caring Across Borders
At the heart of the Diocese of Kingstown in St. Vincent and the Grenadines stands St. Benedict’s Home for Children — a place where compassion meets daily need.
A small donation goes a long way:
$25 provides diapers, soap, and personal care items for a week
$50 provides groceries or basic medicines for residents
$100 supports school supplies and learning materials
$250 Repairs and maintenance for vehicles and equipment
$500+ Major projects such as a new laundry area or vehicle garage
For decades, the Sisters and staff have provided shelter, food, and medical care for children without families who have nowhere else to go.
Cedarbrook Center partners with St. Benedict – together we strengthen community, restore dignity, and share hope across borders.
What Your Gift Supports
Daily life at St. Benedict’s is full of both joy and challenge. Each month, the staff must stretch limited resources to provide:
Groceries and medical supplies for children
School bags, books, and educational materials for students
Linens, towels, and clothing for those in care
Repairs and maintenance of vehicles, laundry facilities, and living quarters
Current Needs
Because the Home sits close to the sea, salt air quickly damages vehicles and equipment. A new garage will protect what they have worked hard to maintain. The laundry and clothes-drying areas also need reconstruction with a concrete roof to safeguard residents’ clothing and bedding.
Beyond these projects, St. Benedict’s constantly needs linens, school supplies, and medical items such as cough syrup, allergy medication, and antiseptic creams. Each gift meets a real person’s need in a real moment.

History and background
St. Benedict Day Nursery and Children’s Home was established in 1963 as a result of Father Roberts finding young children tied to some chairs or tables by their parents in order to go out to the banana plantations ‘to gain a living’. The parents felt this was a safe way to prevent the child from wandering. (The parents never thought that this was endangering the child). Later, an infant hospital section was added in 1968. This institution provided 24-hour care to children in need, including those suffering from malnutrition, and played a crucial role in saving lives. In 1973, services expanded to include shelter and care for various disadvantaged children.
Current Operations:
We house and care for 15-25 girls and 7-12 boys at a given time, divided into two buildings: 1 for girls and 1 for boys. The staff works in a three-shift system but faces challenges due to the increasing number of children and the high cost of living.
Daily Activities of the Children: The children attend local schools or engage in activities within the institution. Eleven (11) children attend a primary school in the village. Two (2) children attend the School for Special Needs, Georgetown. The other children who remain at home, a few mentally challenged children, are engaged in activities by the caregivers. These activities range from music and physiotherapy to homework, extra educational work, computer activities, and learning Christian values.
