How do we help our young students grow into lifelong leaders?

We encourage them to participate in artistic, logistical & organizational decisions.

We ask them to accept leadership roles and self-define them.

We regularly practice prioritizing and goal setting as a group.

Our dancers learn to share knowledge by teaching peers, develop an understanding of group dynamics, and develop confidence through peer mentorship. They also get to practice collaborative problem solving and, most importantly, learn and practice respect for other people, and value the rich diversity of voices & talents available to us.

Our students of all ages from youth to seniors are energized and engaged, not only in the dance but in the community of dancers as well.

We teach tap dance, but it is not just about tap dance, we teach life skills & behavior through tap dance.

Our classes focus on technique, improvisation as a tool for learning, choreography from masters from the 1920’s to the present and the history and culture of Tap dance in America. We encourage peer educating as a learning tool.

Our students are encouraged to participate in tap festivals, nationally & internationally, and perform at community events as a public service. Our dancers do not compete any of our works. Instead, we focus on the artistic value of work and offer the chance to perform in the national festival circuit.

Our instructors are all lifelong tap learners with their finger on the pulse of the international tap scene. We regularly invite both local and international guest artists to guest teach our students.

Outreach to underserved populations is an important part of our programming.

We serve students age 8-18 in public schools, beginning adults of all ages through multiple venues with a focus on adults over 50.
