Kinship Youth Mentoring of Princeton is a youth mentoring program that was established in our community in 2000. This Fall, we celebrate 20 years of continued success and a community that has embraced and supported our program. With their help, we have been improving the lives of youth and providing mentorships to help encourage, guide, and support them. Besides the mentoring portion of Kinship, we also have a Reading Buddies program where volunteers are matched with a second grade student to have lunch and read with them. Many Reading Buddies would agree that this has been an enjoyable and enriching part of our Kinship program. Due to the pandemic, our Reading Buddies have not been able to enter the schools. Instead, an alternative plan has been implemented and our Reading Buddies are now pen pals to these second grade students.
Kinship offers monthly events to our matches that range from going to Valleyfair to volunteering in our community. These events offer a chance for our mentors and kinskids to connect with one another and develop relationships with others in the program. It's a great time to have fun and try something new.
The pandemic has been hard on our program financially. Several of our fundraisers were canceled, including our most lucrative fundraiser, Pumpkin Chunkin'. Our community has been good to us and has supported us financially and on a volunteer basis as well. However, the pandemic has been hard on them as well and we're sensitive to that.
Our hope is that we can raise enough money to cover the costs of our monthly events for one year. Please consider giving to Kinship so we can continue on helping our youth. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Here's to twenty more years of success!
