At People Incorporated, we believe mental health is community health. We embrace care that supports individuals “where they are at."

Our mental health professionals can be found in schools, homeless encampments, crisis centers, treatment programs, and integrated into many community settings. From school-aged children trying to cope with a year of trauma and insecurity to elderly individuals who need long-term care that supports their physical health and mental health - your gifts help your neighbors, including those who are the most vulnerable, find hope and healing.

When someone is experiencing homelessness, a new pair of socks or underwear can be a source of dignity and health. Foot care is extremely important. Clean, dry socks prevent sores, which may be difficult to heal or treat when one cannot change out or dry their feet. Open sores often worsen and can lead to compounding health issues including infections, nerve damage, sepsis and more. Similarly, a clean, dry pair of underwear can take away discomfort, prevent chafing, and simply make someone feel cleaner.

Many of the individuals People Incorporated's Street Outreach team meet only have the clothes on their body, and may go weeks at a time without a shower or a chance to clean themselves or their clothes. Imagine wearing the same socks or underwear for weeks at a time. Now imagine what a gift a new pair may bring!

Socks and underwear are also tools to build safe, trusting relationships. They show the people we're supporting that we can actually help. Sometimes they're a conversation starter - how long have you been living on the street? What else do you need? What would make life better than it is right now? These are the starting points for a trusting relationship that can lead to connections to housing, mental health/chemical health services, financial assistance, and more.
All from your donation of a pair of socks or underwear...
