SNAP Back: A Story of Hunger, Hope, and Community Power

In North Minneapolis, hunger isn’t just about empty fridges — it’s about broken systems, tough choices, and survival.

It’s the mother who skips dinner so her kids can eat. The grandfather choosing between insulin and groceries. The young man walking past gunfire just to get to school — hungry, tired, and uncertain.

This is life in the 5th largest food desert in America, where 1 in 5 households is food insecure, and communities of color face hunger at nearly 3 times the rate of white households.

But at Shiloh Cares Food Shelf, we don’t just see problems. We plant solutions.

Here, food is more than nourishment — it’s a violence prevention tool. A job creator. A hope restorer.

Every week, local youth grow fresh produce, stock shelves, serve neighbors, and earn real wages. We offer wraparound services like job support, urban farming, and connections to human services — creating a path forward for over 8,000 people each month in North Minneapolis and Hennepin County.

But demand is rising — and SNAP cuts have made the hunger gap even wider.

That’s why this Give to the Max Day, we’re asking you to help our neighbors SNAP back from hunger.

Thanks to a $20,000 matching gift from the Victor & Christine Anthony Family Foundation, your donation will go twice as far — feeding more families, employing more youth, and keeping hope alive in the heart of the Northside.

We’ve seen what’s possible when people believe in community.

Will you join us. Because Change Starts With Community — And It Starts With Food.
