Amos & Atticus endured more in their young lives than any dog should ever have to. They were born under a shed to a stray momma dog who did her best to care for them. Then neighbors found her shot and killed. The boys were on their own and not even two months old. Neighbors tried to bring them food when they could and looked for help. A fellow rescuer heard their plight and soon they were on their way to our Safe House. When they arrived they were barely hanging on. But these boys are fighters, survivors. They stayed alive despite impossible odds. They deserve to be known!
They arrived with crusty, painful skin and a massive infection born from scratching at the itchy mange mites that took up on their little bodies. Their eyes were so swollen they could barely open them. They were starving, dehydrated and very weak. It was a whirlwind of medicated baths and lotions, antibiotics, parasite treatments, and syringe feeding small amounts frequently until they were strong enough to eat on their own. Slowly, the boys started recovering.
The next task was to find them a committed foster home in the Twin Cities that would care for them through their healing journey and then to help them both find the ultimate rescue ending... a forever home!
On March 22nd I welcomed them into my home where they continued to heal, grow, learn, socialize, feel good, thrive, and become the best puppies they could be!
Once healthy and happy puppies, these boys started looking for their forever homes and attending events that would help socialize them. They attended multiple Meet & Greets, a Puppy Yoga and they visited the kind employees at the MECC/911 center. They experienced all the sounds and beeps and wonderful animal loving call takers and dispatchers on the late shift.
Amos & Atticus are the perfect examples of just the kind of pups Safe Hands is here to help – they needed good nutrition and personalized care. They only weighed just four pounds each when they were rescued, and were each over 25 pounds when they moved in to their forever homes!Safe Hands was able to give these boys the needed time and care to heal and recover. Thanks to animal lovers like you, our team was there with the resources Amos & Atticus needed to recover, survive–and go on to thrive. With extra care, love, nutrition, and attention, they rallied. These sweet puppies, who were destined not to make it, got a second chance because of donors like you!
Join me and Safe Hands this summer to make sure there's someone there for the next Amos & Atticus. Your gift makes a difference, changing the world for more than 1,500 dogs and cats in need like Amos & Atticus, every single year.
