Why am I helping? Well, I've been a volunteer and staff off and on for over a decade now. P+P offers a much needed service to allow people to file their taxes at no cost to them. It keeps necessary refund money out of the hands of the very often predatory paid tax preparer market. Tax returns are needed for many aspects of financial and physical well-being: health benefits, housing, and education often require showing a completed tax return. Until such time as the US develops a better tax filing system, P+P offers an indispensable service.
