OTTER TAIL RIVER MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION

2025 FALL UPDATE

Hello!

We’re steadily advancing our goals for the Ottertail River.  You haven't seen splashy results overnight, we knew that would be the case, but the groundwork of meetings, board calls, dozens per year-is all in motion.

Here’s where we’re headed:

Short-term (one year):

  • Permitted weed control along channels
  • Clearing blockages where needed
  • Unlocking south access to Ottertail Lake with riprap upgrades
  • Scouting a weed harvester to more effectively remove weed buildup while following the proper protocol / licensing / permits

Long-term (one to three years):

  • Dredging shallow stretches between outlets
  • Testing a flexible north dam - think rubber bladder you inflate or drop fast, based on flow. Quotes coming in now.  The north outlet will otherwise stay open.
  • Board Recruitment.   Turnover has happened – great thanks to those who stepped up - we are looking to fill seats.  3-year term - monthly Board meetings that can be attended in-person or via TEAMS
  • Fundraising:   Big costs ahead mean we’ll lean on grants and donations.  Strong public support can only help our chances for obtaining grants.
  • If you haven’t already, please renew your membership for the Aug ’25 thru Jul ’26 year via https://wcif.org/fund/orm/ or by completing the attached form.
  • Consider making tax deductible gifts beyond membership such as Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs), gifts of highly appreciated assets and/or Designations in your Estate Planning.
