One fall day I helped with a river cleanup effort which involved several members of the youth core. I was teamed up with a group of youth that greatly impressed me with their dedication to the effort. They were polite and articulate about their education, goals, and they shared with me how being a part of the Conservation Corps was having a positive impact on their lives. This experience led me to look more into the Conservation Corps, and I found that their core beliefs and mission aligned with mine. I joined the organization as a board member in the fall of 2019. I believe this is an organization that will help change the future by giving many young adults equitable access to nature, teaching skills to better equip them to succeed in career and life, and encouraging them to make a difference in conserving natural resources.
During our SpringForwardMN campaign, May 1-11, we are raising funds to help establish a new Member Assistance Fund. The Assistance Fund will provide one-time financial assistance to members who are facing an immediate financial hardship during their service term. Without access to emergency support, members who experience financial hardship during their term may end up leaving the Corps early, missing out on the benefits of having a full Corps experience.
