My Pit Bull is Family is focused on ending housing and insurance discrimination for ALL dogs regardless of what they look like or their perceived breed. We know that all dogs are individuals and that the families who love them deserve a place to call home, together. We know that lack of pet-friendly housing is a top reason why families surrender their dog to shelters and rescues. We believe that by providing resources to families searching for housing and partnering with local organizations to provide wrap-around services, we will be able to reduce the number of dogs that enter our shelters and rescues each year.

Our Programs:

National Housing Database:
Our Pet-Friendly Housing Database is our primary national project. Each month, our national volunteer rental research team contacts dog-friendly apartments in various cities across the U.S. to gather pet policy data. We add all truly pet-friendly properties to our searchable database families can use to find properties with no breed or weight restrictions in their area.

Lack of pet-friendly housing is only one of the reasons families are forced to surrender their pets. Families also need access to affordable pet food and veterinary care, which is why My Pit Bull is Family partners with local organizations to provide wrap-around services locally in Minneapolis.

North Minneapolis Pet Resource Center:
Our major local project is the North Minneapolis Pet Resource Center. Funded completely by donations and partnerships with local pet food banks, we provide pet food and supplies to Minneapolis’s most underserved neighborhoods, including free delivery to homebound families in North Minneapolis. We also offer pickup for anyone able to drive to the center regardless of where they live. Families can request supplies once a month, no questions asked.
