If it's not obvious from our social media posts, we are dedicated to animal rescue, particularly Safe Hands Animal Rescue. For years, we have volunteered as photo assistants at SHAR adoption events and animal intakes. Volunteers have lovingly dubbed us the "apron ladies" or treat ladies." You will find us at the photo booth bribing dogs with hotdogs and cheese. If all goes to plan, the photographer will get a stellar shot that not only captures the animal's personality, but also increases the chance of adoption.
Safe Hands Rescue is hosting their Virtual Fur Ball Gala for the second year in a row, and I'm raising funds on their behalf! SHAR aims to raise $100,000 for the renovation of the barn at The Safe House in Kentucky into an animal holding ward with safe, clean kennel runs where dogs and cats can get the medical attention and food they desperately need before making the long trip up north.
Sarah's dogs Violet Beauregarde and Ernie Banks are SHAR alumni. Violet was abandoned at six-months old and adopted in June 2015. Ernie was found with a bullet wound to his back leg. After surgery, he was adopted in October 2016. Without SHAR, there'd be no Violet and Ernie in our lives, which is unimaginable.
Our motivation for volunteering and fundraising is simple - dogs like Ernie and Violent, and all the other abandoned, neglected and mistreated animals at our partner shelters in Kentucky. Safe Hands Rescue gives homeless pets a second chance to have a great life. If you have a companion animal, you know that we don’t just rescue them…they rescue us too. They bring happiness, make us laugh and give us comfort. We give them the best days of their lives and in return they give us the best days of ours.
Please consider donating. If you are unable to give monetarily, please pass along our donation page to animal lovers in your life. Please also consider volunteering. There are so many more companion animals like Ernie and Violet, who desperately want a warm house and love. These are such basic things, but to the adopted animal, it means the world. In challenging times like these our companion animals are there with us and for us. They see us through hard times. Challenging times like these tend to bring out the best in people. Your gift today will help save lives, share joy and create love.
