In 1967, Twin Cities Institute for Talented Youth (TCITY) was launched when several Minneapolis and St. Paul public school educators, along with their academically gifted students, sought a way to continue learning beyond the regular school year.  In 1995, TCITY became Minnesota Institute for Talented Youth (MITY) to reflect its broadened student population that included students from around Minnesota, the U.S. and the world.

MITY’s summer and weekend academic enrichment programs ignite curiosity and build skills and attitudes for lifelong success.  Our staff empowers eager 1st - 11th grade students to recognize and grow their unique talents through innovative classes and a welcoming environment.  MITY's interdisciplinary, hands-on curriculum challenges students to collaborate with diverse peers to generate creative solutions to real-world issues.

MITY is known for its inclusiveness and celebration of diversity in its many forms.  It maintains strong non-discrimination policies in all areas of the organization, including hiring, admissions, and its code of conduct.  2023 parents frequently commented on "the incredibly supportive environment" and the "opportunity to meet diverse peers from around the world."  One student called MITY "a new beginning" while another wrote, "I learned to have a voice at MITY."

MITY believes that talent, commitment and desire cross all socioeconomic, racial and ethnic groups.  This is why it works hard to maintain a strong financial aid program and does extensive community outreach to identify low-income, BIPOC and/or first-generation students who would thrive at MITY if given the opportunity.

Last year, 24% of MITY students received financial aid, roughly 61% of these were students of color and 70% qualified for free or reduced lunch.  In addition to tuition assistance, students can receive help with transportation, meals during their session, housing, and supplies.

100% of your tax-deductible gift goes directly toward student scholarships.  Now more than ever, eager learners need meaningful academic enrichment opportunities and a place to find a community of like-minded peers.

Your gift can change a child's life.  Donate now and make a MITY difference in a student's life.
